Shark sells its robots under a thicket of names: Matrix Plus, AI Ultra, Matrix IQ, PowerDetect, Navigator. Shoppers searching for the Shark Matrix are usually asking one thing: what is Matrix Clean, and which Shark robot actually has it? Matrix Clean is Shark's name for a navigation pattern, not a single product. According to Shark, the robot cleans in a precision grid, taking multiple passes over dirt and debris.

This guide sorts the Matrix robots we can read today. It explains what the feature claims, compares the Matrix Plus and the AI Ultra side by side, says what to do about the older Matrix models, and shows when it makes sense to move up to Shark's PowerDetect line. For the whole brand, including the cheaper Shark ION robots, see our Shark robot vacuum guide. This page covers only the Matrix and AI Ultra branch.

How We Choose

We do not run a test lab, and we will not pretend to. Every Shark robot here was chosen by reading the maker's own wording on its Amazon US listing, line by line, and comparing the models on the same points. We say what Shark states and attribute it. Where a listing is silent, we write that it is not stated rather than guess.

  • Navigation

Matrix Clean grid passes, LiDAR mapping and any object detection the listing names.

  • Hair and pets

Self-cleaning brushroll and any pet claim the maker makes.

  • Mopping

Whether the robot mops at all, and how the pad is handled.

  • The base

Bagless or bagged, days of dirt held, HEPA filtration and pad washing.

  • Carpets and edges

Edge cleaning claims and how the robot treats carpet.

  • Upkeep

Bags, filters and pads you will keep buying.

  • Price tier

Budget, mid-range or premium. We never print a price: it changes daily.

  • Current model

Every pick is sold as new at Amazon US. We leave out Renewed listings.

Checked on November 7, 2026. No brand paid to be on this page or saw it before publication. When you buy through our links we may earn a commission from Amazon; it never changes the order.

Shark Matrix Models Compared

The table sets the Matrix robots next to the PowerDetect step-ups and a budget Shark. Shark's percentage claims compare each robot with another Shark model or a setting of its own, so they say little about other brands. Where a cell says not stated, the listing is silent.

The Shark Matrix Robots, Reviewed

Each review opens with the short verdict, then who should buy it and who should not. The first two are the Matrix robots. The last three are the PowerDetect models you would look at if Matrix is not enough.

Shark Matrix Plus UR2650WS black robot vacuum and mop beside its bagless self-empty base

Top pick · Best for a Matrix robot that also mops

Shark Matrix Plus UR2650WS

The Shark Matrix to read first. It is the Matrix robot that vacuums and mops, and it empties into a bagless base that needs no disposal bags.

  • Mid-range
  • Matrix Clean Yes
  • Mopping Sonic mopping
  • Base Bagless HEPA, up to 30 days
  • Navigation 360° LiDAR

Buy it if
You want grid-pattern cleaning, a base that holds a month of dirt and one robot for both carpet and hard floor.
Skip it if
You want a base that washes and dries the mop pad. The listing describes sonic mopping, but no pad-washing base.

The Matrix Plus listing is built around Matrix Clean. Shark says the robot cleans in a precision matrix grid, taking multiple passes over dirt and debris, and claims 30% better carpet cleaning than the RV2610WD on a single pass over level loop sand. That is a comparison with another Shark model, so read it as a hint about the feature, not a ranking against other brands.

Shark also lists CleanEdge Detect, which uses blasts of air and corner recognition to pull debris from edges into the cleaning path, with a claimed 50% better edge cleaning than the RV2610WD with CleanEdge turned off. The title names sonic mopping, a self-cleaning brushroll and 360° LiDAR mapping.

The base is bagless. Shark states that it holds up to 30 days of dirt and debris, with true HEPA filtration that captures 99.97% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns, and that no disposal bags are needed. Recharge and Resume lets the robot top up its battery and carry on where it stopped. Runtime and mop-pad washing are not stated.

What stands out

  • Matrix Clean grid passes and CleanEdge Detect, per Shark
  • Vacuums and sonic mops in one robot
  • Bagless base holds up to 30 days of dirt
  • True HEPA filtration in the base, as stated by Shark

Trade-offs

  • Base does not wash or dry the mop pad, as far as the listing says
  • Runtime and mop water tank size are not stated
  • Percentage claims compare Shark models only
Shark AI Ultra AV2501S dark grey robot vacuum with Matrix Clean beside its HEPA self-empty base

Best for a vacuum-only Matrix robot

Shark AI Ultra AV2501S

The pick if you want Matrix Clean and a self-emptying base but no mop. It is an older model, so check the finer points on the listing.

  • Mid-range
  • Matrix Clean Yes
  • Mopping Not stated (vacuum listing)
  • Base Bagless HEPA, up to 30 days
  • Navigation 360° LiDAR

Buy it if
Your floors are mostly carpet or you mop separately, and you want a pet-friendly vacuum with Matrix navigation.
Skip it if
You want one robot to mop as well. The listing describes vacuuming only.

The Shark AI Ultra, model AV2501S, carries Matrix Clean in its title. Shark describes the same grid idea: the robot cleans in a precise matrix, taking multiple passes over dirt and debris for deep whole-home coverage. 360° LiDAR maps the home and the robot detects objects in its path.

The base is bagless and self-emptying. Shark says it holds up to 30 days of debris, with true HEPA filtration that traps 99.97% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns. The listing aims the robot at pet homes, citing the suction, the self-cleaning brushroll and the HEPA system for hair, dander and allergens.

Runtime is listed as up to 120 minutes, with Recharge and Resume to finish the job. Control is by app, Alexa or Google Assistant, and the listing states a one-year limited warranty. The listing gives a release date of December 2021, so this is the older of the two Matrix robots here. Mopping is not described.

What stands out

  • Matrix Clean and 360° LiDAR mapping
  • Bagless base holds up to 30 days of debris
  • Up to 120 minutes of runtime, per Shark
  • One-year limited warranty is stated

Trade-offs

  • No mopping is described
  • Older design than the Matrix Plus
  • Edge cleaning and carpet claims are not stated
Shark PowerDetect AV2800ZE robot vacuum and mop with its self-emptying base, a step up from a Shark Matrix

Best for a step up with a washing base

Shark PowerDetect AV2800ZE

The first PowerDetect to look at when Matrix feels too basic. It senses dirt and stains and its base looks after the mop pad.

  • Mid-range
  • Navigation LiDAR plus 3D sensors

Check price on Amazon

Buy it if
You want a robot that vacuums and mops, and you would rather not rinse pads or refill a tank for weeks.
Skip it if
You only need Matrix Clean. This listing does not name it, so the grid feature is not stated.

The AV2800ZE swaps Matrix Clean for what Shark calls five PowerDetect technologies. DirtDetect finds areas with more debris and boosts vacuuming there. StainDetect targets stains and takes extra mopping passes. EdgeDetect blasts air to push debris from edges and corners into the cleaning path, and the mop pad extends up to an inch for edges.

NeverStuck is Shark's name for the robot lifting itself over obstacles and thresholds, and for keeping the pad above carpet while mopping. Shark claims up to 2x better cleaning coverage than Shark ION, a Shark-versus-Shark comparison. Navigation combines 3D sensors with 360° LiDAR.

The NeverTouch Pro base empties into a 60-day bin, refills the robot's water tank for up to 30 days, and washes and dries the pad after every clean. The listing names HEPA filtration and sonic mopping. Runtime is not stated.

What stands out

  • Five PowerDetect technologies for debris and stains
  • 60-day bin and 30-day water refill, per Shark
  • Base washes and dries the mop pad
  • NeverStuck lifts over thresholds and keeps the pad off carpet

Trade-offs

  • Matrix Clean is not named
  • Runtime is not stated
  • More parts and pads to replace than a vacuum-only robot
Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch RV2820YE robot vacuum and mop with its NeverTouch base, a premium Shark Matrix alternative

Best for a month of hands-off upkeep

Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch RV2820YE

For people who want the longest stated gap between chores. The listing leads with a month of automatic emptying, refilling and pad washing.

  • Premium
  • Mopping Mops, pad extends up to 1 in
  • Navigation 360° LiDAR

Check price on Amazon

Buy it if
You have a mixed-floor home, you dislike servicing a robot weekly, and the premium tier is acceptable.
Skip it if
You want the detail behind the headline. The listing is short on specs, and runtime is not stated.

The RV2820YE's pitch is time between visits. Shark states that the robot empties debris into a 60-day-capacity bin, refills its own water tank for up to 30 days, and washes and dries the mop pad after every clean. The title adds pad drying to the NeverTouch base and names 360° LiDAR.

The cleaning list matches the AV2800ZE: five PowerDetect technologies, DirtDetect, StainDetect for extra mopping passes, and EdgeDetect air blasts with a pad that extends up to an inch. NeverStuck lifts the robot over obstacles and thresholds, with the claim of up to 2x better coverage than Shark ION.

Read the two PowerDetect listings together and the cleaning features look alike. The differences are in the base wording and the sensor description, so check the listing for the current accessory list. Runtime, height and mop water volume are not stated.

What stands out

  • 60-day bin, 30-day water refill and pad washing, per Shark
  • Five PowerDetect technologies
  • NeverStuck threshold and obstacle lifting
  • 360° LiDAR named in the title

Trade-offs

  • Few additional specs beyond the AV2800ZE
  • Runtime and height are not stated
  • Few listed upgrades over the AV2800ZE beyond the base
Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal AV3000XE robot vacuum and mop with its heated self-cleaning base, a top Shark Matrix step-up

Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal AV3000XE

The top of the Shark range on this page. It is aimed at pets, with a UV light that shows stains and a heated base for the pad.

  • Navigation NeuroNav AI, RGB sensors, camera

Buy it if
You have pets or kids, deal with dried spills and want the strongest mopping Shark lists.
Skip it if
You want a simple vacuum. Eight PowerDetect technologies and a camera-led navigation system are a lot to pay for.

The AV3000XE adds UV Stain Detect. Shark says the UV light reveals invisible messes such as sticky spills and dried pet accidents, with up to 2x better stain removal than the Dreame X40. HyperSonic mopping uses a targeted pattern with 7x the scrubbing power of the Shark RV2820ZE, again Shark's own comparison.

The ThermaCharged NeverTouch Pro base empties for up to 60 days, refills the tank and washes and dries the pad with 185°F water and 175°F air. HEPA filtration and an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal are listed.

NeuroNav AI combines RGB sensors, lasers and an UltraRange camera, and Shark says the robot lifts and maneuvers around obstacles such as toys. The NeverStop battery is listed at up to 3 hours on bare floors, and eight PowerDetect technologies are named. A camera on board may matter to privacy-minded homes.

What stands out

  • UV Stain Detect for invisible messes, per Shark
  • 185°F pad washing and 175°F drying air
  • Up to 3 hours of runtime on bare floors, as stated
  • NeuroNav AI with camera and sensors

Trade-offs

  • More dock and sensor than a vacuum-only home needs
  • Camera-led navigation may not suit privacy-minded homes
  • Percentage claims compare Shark and Dreame models, not your floors

What Matrix Clean Does

Matrix Clean is a navigation and coverage feature. Shark's own wording on both Matrix listings is the same: the robot cleans in a precision grid and takes multiple passes over dirt and debris. The Matrix Plus listing adds a number, 30% better carpet cleaning than the RV2610WD single pass, from a sand test Shark describes. That is Shark's measurement of Shark robots, so use it as a sign of intent, not proof of how it will do on your rug.

Grid Passes and What They Mean at Home

The grid idea matters most on carpet and on dirty patches. A robot that crosses an area in two directions has two chances at the same spot. The cost is time: more passes mean a longer run. The AI Ultra states up to 120 minutes of runtime. The Matrix Plus does not state a figure, so check the battery on the listing before assuming it will finish a large floor in one go. Recharge and Resume appears on both and lets the robot return to the base, charge and continue.

CleanEdge Detect and Edges

The Matrix Plus lists CleanEdge Detect, with blasts of air and corner recognition that move debris into the cleaning path. The AI Ultra listing does not describe an edge feature, so we write not stated. The PowerDetect models use a similar idea under the name EdgeDetect and add a mop pad that extends up to an inch.

The Bagless HEPA Base

Both Matrix robots empty into a bagless base. Shark states that it holds up to 30 days of dirt and debris and that no disposal bags are needed. True HEPA filtration in the base captures 99.97% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns, per Shark. If you would rather compare self-emptying bases across brands, our guide to the best self-emptying robot vacuums sets them side by side.

Matrix Plus or AI Ultra?

The deciding question is mopping. The Matrix Plus is titled a robot vacuum and mop with sonic mopping. The AI Ultra listing describes vacuuming only and says nothing about a mop. If you want one machine for hard floors that also gets a damp wipe, the Plus is the one. If your home is mostly carpet, or you already mop with something else, the AI Ultra gives you Matrix Clean and a bagless base without a mop you may not use.

Beyond that, the two read similarly. Both list 360° LiDAR, a bagless self-empty base for up to 30 days and true HEPA filtration. The Plus adds CleanEdge Detect and a listed release date of October 2025; the AI Ultra lists December 2021. For pet hair, the AI Ultra listing makes the claim directly, citing suction, the self-cleaning brushroll and HEPA. Our pet hair robot vacuum guide compares other brands against it.

Older Matrix Models: RV2310, RV2300 and Matrix IQ

You will see other Matrix names in search results. The RV2310, the RV2300 and the Matrix IQ are earlier robots in the family. When we checked on November 7, 2026, we found them offered only as Renewed or refurbished listings from third-party sellers, with no new unit sold.

We do not recommend Renewed listings on this site, because the listing wording describes a unit that has been handled and re-sold, and we cannot check what that means for the battery or the warranty. So we do not link to them. If you want Matrix Clean today, the Matrix Plus and the AI Ultra above are the models we can read as new. If you own an older Matrix and need parts or help, Shark's own support pages are the place to look.

Matrix vs PowerDetect

Shark's PowerDetect line replaces the single Matrix idea with a stack of sensing features. On the three listings above, Shark names five to eight PowerDetect technologies: DirtDetect for debris, StainDetect for stains, EdgeDetect for edges, and NeverStuck for thresholds. The upper models add a washing base, which the Matrix Plus and AI Ultra do not have.

When Matrix Is Enough

Stay with a Matrix robot when your floors are mostly carpet or mixed and you want grid cleaning with a bagless base. The Matrix Plus is the sensible mid-range option, and the AI Ultra is the choice if you do not want a mop at all. Neither needs you to wash pads at a base.

When to Step Up

Step up to the AV2800ZE if you want the pad washed and dried for you, with a refill that lasts up to 30 days. Move to the NeverTouch or the UV Reveal only if the premium tier is acceptable. The UV Reveal is the one for pets and dried messes, with UV Stain Detect and 185°F pad washing. For how Shark compares with other makers, see Shark vs Roomba and Shark vs Roborock.

When a Budget Shark Will Do

If you need the lowest tier, the Shark Navigator RV2110 is the budget alternative we can read. It uses SmartPath Navigation with spot LiDAR and cleans row by row, which Shark claims gives up to 1.5x more coverage than Shark ION. It has a self-cleaning brushroll described as anti-hair wrap and detects and avoids objects. No base, mop or Matrix Clean is described, and the listing gives a height of 4.6 inches. It is a plain robot vacuum, not a Matrix.

Shark Matrix FAQ

Matrix Clean is a navigation feature, while the Matrix Plus is a specific robot that uses it. Shark describes Matrix Clean as a grid pattern with multiple passes. The Plus pairs it with sonic mopping and a bagless base holding up to 30 days of debris. Other Shark robots, such as the AI Ultra, also use the feature.
When we checked on November 7, 2026, we found the Matrix IQ only as Renewed offers from third-party sellers, with no new unit. We do not recommend Renewed listings here. Shark's own site may say more, so check it before buying. If you want a current Matrix robot, the Matrix Plus is the one to read.
No, the Matrix Plus and AI Ultra listings both describe a bagless self-empty base. Shark states that it holds up to 30 days of dirt and debris and that no disposal bags are needed. The base uses a HEPA filter, so expect to maintain that filter. How often is not stated on the listings.
Not exactly. The AI Ultra AV2501S is an older robot whose title includes Matrix Clean, but its listing describes vacuuming only. The Matrix Plus UR2650WS is a newer model with sonic mopping and CleanEdge Detect. Both use a bagless base, so pick by whether you want a mop.
Shark designed Matrix Clean with carpet in mind. The Matrix Plus listing claims 30% better carpet cleaning than the RV2610WD single pass on level loop sand, and the AI Ultra lists suction for all floor types. Carpet pile height limits are not stated, so check a thick rug against the listing before buying.
