The Best Robotic Pool Cleaners for Above-Ground Pools
Seven current pool robots for above-ground pools, chosen for the things that go wrong in a smaller, softer pool: wall climbing, liners, flat floors and the weight you lift over the edge.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no cost to you. How we make money.
An above-ground pool is a different job from an inground one, and most pool robots are written for the second. The pool is smaller, the floor is often flat, and the walls are a liner or a resin panel, not tile or plaster. You also lift the robot over the edge instead of out onto a deck, so every pound counts. A robot built for a 50 ft inground pool can be too heavy to handle, too aggressive on a liner, or simply unnecessary.
This guide takes that pool as the starting point. It covers seven current robots, what each maker says about above-ground use, and where the listing is silent. For the wider picture, see our guide to the best robotic pool cleaners, or the cordless pool robot guide if the battery is your main question.

How We Choose
We do not own a pool or run a test lab, and we will not pretend to. Every pick here was chosen by reading the maker's own listing for each current model, line by line, and comparing all of them on the points that matter in an above-ground pool. We list what the maker states and say so. Where a listing does not mention above-ground use, liners or soft walls, we say "Not stated" instead of guessing.
-
Pool size
The pool length or area the maker says one cycle covers, and whether the listing names above-ground pools.
-
Flat or sloped floor
Some robots are written for flat floors only. Many above-ground pools are flat, but check yours.
-
Liner safety
Whether the listing names vinyl or any liner at all. Most do not, and we say so.
-
Wall climbing on soft walls
Whether the robot climbs walls, a feature that matters less in a shallow soft-sided pool.
-
Weight over the wall
The listed weight you have to lift over the edge of the pool.
-
Cordless or cord over the edge
A battery to recharge, or a cable that runs over the wall to an outlet.
-
Filter
A basket, cartridge or fine filter, and the micron rating where one is stated.
-
Price tier
A budget, mid-range or premium tier. We never print a price.

The Best Above-Ground Pool Cleaners, Reviewed
Each review opens with a short verdict, then who should buy the robot and who should not. The detail underneath is there for when two picks look close.
Top pick · Best overall
Dolphin Nautilus CC
The safest all-rounder for an above-ground pool. Dolphin's title names above-ground and inground pools up to 33 ft, and the robot is light enough at a listed 14.8 lb to lift over a wall.
- Pool type named Above and inground
- Pool size Up to 33 ft long
- Power Corded, plug-and-play
- Runtime 2 hour cycle
- Buy it if
- You have an above-ground pool up to 33 ft long and want a robot that is simple to start and simple to empty.
- Skip it if
- You want a cordless robot, an app, or a stated filter rating. The listing gives none of those.
The Nautilus CC is the one pick here that says in plain words that it works in above-ground pools, and it does so up to 33 ft. Dolphin lists a wall-scrubbing robot with an active scrubbing brush that works on any pool surface and shape, a top-load filter basket and a plug-and-play setup: plug in, drop it in the pool, power on, with a cycle of about 2 hours.
The weight is what makes it workable over a wall. The listing puts it at 14.8 lb, and lifting a wet robot over the edge is the part of the routine that most people dislike. The top-load basket opens from above, so the debris can be rinsed away without pulling the robot apart.
This is a corded robot, so the cable has to run over the wall to an outlet, and the listing does not give its length. It also does not state the micron rating, the waterline or any app control, and it carries a one year warranty. For a standard above-ground pool near an outlet, none of that is a dealbreaker.
What stands out
- Listing names above-ground and inground pools up to 33 ft
- Listed weight of 14.8 lb
- Active scrubbing brush and a top-load basket
- Plug-and-play, with a cycle of about 2 hours
Trade-offs
- Corded, with the cable length not stated
- No app and no filter micron rating stated
- One year warranty
Best for vinyl liners and big debris loads
Dolphin Escape
The one that talks about liners. Dolphin's listing names vinyl, fiberglass and gunite pools up to 33 ft, above ground and in-ground, with continuous tracks and an oversized cartridge.
- Premium
- Pool type named Above and inground
- Pool size Up to 33 ft
- Filter Large top-loading cartridge
- Buy it if
- You have a vinyl-liner pool, a lot of leaves or algae, and you want a larger filter.
- Skip it if
- You need a stated weight or power type. The listing gives neither a firm weight nor whether it is corded or cordless.
The Escape is Dolphin's 2026-model listing for above-ground and inground pools up to 33 ft, in any shape, made with vinyl, fiberglass or gunite. It is the only listing here that names a liner material, which is the information an above-ground owner most wants.
Dolphin describes HyperGrip continuous tracks on 24 volt DC motors, a HyperBrush scrubbing brush that scrubs and vacuums contaminants, algae and debris, and SmartNav 2.0 scanning navigation. A large cartridge replaces filter bags and holds up to 60 percent more debris, per Dolphin, and the listing quotes filtration of over 4000 GPH. The warranty is a two year quality assurance.
Dolphin mentions quick water release, which makes it easier to lift out of the water. A weight is not stated, and neither is whether the robot is corded or cordless.
What stands out
- Names vinyl, fiberglass and gunite pools up to 33 ft
- Large cartridge that holds up to 60% more debris, per Dolphin
- HyperBrush for algae and contaminants
- Two year quality assurance
Trade-offs
- Weight is not stated
- Corded or cordless is not stated
Best cordless with fine filtration
WYBOT A1
A cordless robot titled for above-ground pools. WYBOT lists up to 130 minutes, pools up to 1,100 sq ft, a 180 micron filter with a textured foam layer, and a recharge in 2 to 3 hours.
- Mid-range
- Pool type named Above ground in title
- Pool size Up to 1,100 sq ft
- Power Cordless
- Runtime Up to 130 min
- Buy it if
- You want a cordless robot with a long runtime and better filtration than the entry models.
- Skip it if
- Your pool has slopes or a wrinkled floor. WYBOT's own note rules out slopes over 15 degrees and significant bottom wrinkles.
The A1 gives an above-ground pool a cordless option with a stated runtime and a filter that is more than a basket. WYBOT lists 2280 GPH suction, which is the maker's flow rating, a 180 micron filter combined with a textured foam layer that it says improves filtration efficiency by up to 50 percent over standard robots, and four cleaning modes.
Up to 130 minutes of runtime cleans pools up to 1,100 sq ft. The battery recharges in 2 to 3 hours, and the robot parks itself near the wall when the battery runs low, which means it is waiting at the edge when you come to collect it. It also pauses at pool edges to improve cleaning before it resumes.
Read the fine print. The listing title is for an above-ground pool, and a note at the end rules out slopes over 15 degrees and significant bottom wrinkles. That makes it a flat-floor robot. Weight is not stated.
What stands out
- Up to 130 minutes, pools up to 1,100 sq ft
- 180 micron filter with a textured foam layer
- Recharges in 2 to 3 hours
- Self-parks near the wall when the battery is low
Trade-offs
- Not for slopes over 15 degrees or wrinkled floors
- Floor-only cleaning is stated
- Weight is not stated
Best for flat-bottomed pools
Hayward AquaVac 250 Li
The cordless pick for a flat floor. Hayward lists coverage in above-ground and most flat-bottomed inground pools less than 5 ft deep and up to 15 x 30 ft, with up to 2 hours of battery.
- Mid-range
- Pool type named Above ground, flat inground
- Pool size Up to 15 x 30 ft, under 5 ft deep
- Power Cordless
- Runtime Up to 2 hours
- Buy it if
- Your pool has a flat floor, is under 5 ft deep, and fits within 15 x 30 ft.
- Skip it if
- You have a deep end, a sloped floor, or you want wall and waterline cleaning. The listing covers the floor.
Hayward is specific about where this robot works, which is useful. The AquaVac 250 Li is a cordless cleaner for flat-bottomed pools, and a patented drive system provides complete floor coverage in above-ground pools and in most flat-bottomed inground pools less than 5 ft deep and up to 15 x 30 ft in size.
Battery life is listed at up to 2 hours, which Hayward says is 25 percent longer than most other cordless cleaners, a comparison we cannot check. A large debris canister adds 30 percent more debris pickup, per Hayward, which means fewer stops to empty it. A floating retrieval string brings the robot to the surface so you can lift it out without a pole.
What it does not do is list wall or waterline cleaning, an app, a filter rating or its weight. Treat it as a floor cleaner for a shallow flat pool, which is a fair description of many above-ground pools.
What stands out
- Names above-ground pools and flat-bottomed pools up to 15 x 30 ft
- Up to 2 hours of battery, cordless
- Large debris canister, 30% more pickup per Hayward
- Floating retrieval string
Trade-offs
- Limited to pools under 5 ft deep
- Wall and waterline cleaning and weight are not stated
- No filter rating or app stated
Best for small flat pools
Aiper Scuba SE
The small-pool pick. Aiper lists it for above-ground pools with a flat floor, a 90 minute battery, pools up to 860 sq ft and 40 ft, and a body of only 8.8 lb.
- Budget
- Pool type named Above ground
- Pool size Up to 860 sq ft
- Power Cordless
- Runtime 90 min
- Buy it if
- You have a flat above-ground pool and want a light cordless robot that parks itself.
- Skip it if
- You need wall climbing, a stated filter rating or an app. The listing mentions none of them.
The Scuba SE is the straightforward answer to a small pool. Aiper lists it for above-ground use with a flat floor, 1200 GPH suction, which is the maker's flow rating, and a 90 minute battery that cleans up to 860 sq ft on a single charge. When the cycle ends it returns to its starting point so you do not have to chase it.
A water purging system drains up to 90 percent of its stored water in 15 seconds, so it is lighter when you lift it out, and the listed weight is 8.8 lb. For a pool you reach over a wall, that is the main practical advantage.
The listing does not state wall climbing, a filter rating or an app.
What stands out
- Listed for above-ground pools with a flat floor
- 8.8 lb and fast water drainage
- 90 minutes for pools up to 860 sq ft
- Returns to the starting point after the cycle
Trade-offs
- Flat floors only
- Wall climbing, filter rating and app are not stated
Best lightweight cordless
Aiper Seagull SE
The lightest robot on the page. Aiper lists 7.5 lb, up to 100 minutes, flat above-ground pools up to 860 sq ft, 1320 GPH suction and a built-in chemical dispenser.
- Budget
- Pool type named Above ground
- Pool size Up to 860 sq ft
- Power Cordless
- Runtime Up to 100 min
- Buy it if
- You lift the robot over the wall every time and want the lowest weight and the lowest tier.
- Skip it if
- You need wall cleaning, a stated filter rating or an app, none of which the listing states.
The Seagull SE is built around ease of handling. At 7.5 lb it is the lightest robot in this guide, and fast drainage lets it shed water before you lift it. Aiper lists up to 100 minutes of runtime for flat above-ground pools up to 860 sq ft and 1320 GPH suction. A single button starts it, and when the battery runs low it parks itself near the pool wall.
The built-in chemical dispenser is the unusual part. Aiper says it helps to balance and purify the water while the robot cleans, a claim that comes from the listing alone. A four-color LED indicator shows the robot's status, and the warranty is one year.
It is a floor cleaner for flat pools. Wall cleaning, a filter rating, charge time and any app are not stated.
What stands out
- 7.5 lb, the lightest here
- Up to 100 minutes for pools up to 860 sq ft
- Built-in chemical dispenser
- Self-parks near the wall when the battery is low
Trade-offs
- Floor cleaner for flat pools
- Filter rating, charge time and app are not stated
- One year warranty
Best long runtime, confirm fit first
WYBOT C1
The longest runtime here, with a catch. WYBOT states it is designed specifically for inground pools. Ask WYBOT before you buy it for an above-ground pool.
- Mid-range
- Pool type named Inground, per feature text
- Pool size Up to 1,618 sq ft
- Power Cordless
- Runtime Up to 160 min
- Buy it if
- You have a large, hard-walled above-ground pool and WYBOT confirms it is suitable.
- Skip it if
- You have a soft-sided pool, or you cannot get written confirmation of the pool type.
The C1 is the strongest cordless spec sheet in this guide. WYBOT lists up to 160 minutes on a 4 hour charge, pools up to 1,618 sq ft and depths up to 9.86 ft, and a triple-motor system that climbs slopes of up to 45 degrees. It cleans the floor, walls, waterline and steps, uses gyroscope navigation with N-path and S-path patterns, and takes updates over the air through the WYBOT app. The warranty is two years.
That wall-climbing power is the reason for caution. The feature text says the robot is designed specifically for inground pools. The listing does not say whether that climbing is meant for the soft wall of an above-ground pool, and it does not address liners.
We include it for its stated runtime, but we do not recommend it for a soft-walled pool without written confirmation. Filter fineness, weight and retrieval are not stated.
What stands out
- Up to 160 minutes on a 4 hour charge
- Pools up to 1,618 sq ft
- Cleans floor, walls, waterline and steps
- Two year manufacturer warranty
Trade-offs
- Designed specifically for inground pools
- Filter rating, weight and retrieval are not stated
- Wall climbing may not suit a soft-sided pool
Soft Walls, Liners and Flat Floors
This is where an above-ground pool differs most from an inground one, and where listings say the least. Be ready to read between the lines, and to ask the maker a direct question.
What the Listings Say About Liners
Only one of the seven, the Dolphin Escape, names a pool material, and it lists vinyl, fiberglass and gunite. The others say nothing about liners. That does not mean a robot will damage one. It means the maker has not told you it is safe, so ask before you buy, and keep the question simple: is this model approved for a vinyl-liner pool?
Soft Walls and Wall Climbing
A robot that climbs the walls of a soft-sided pool is a different proposition from one that climbs tile. The Nautilus CC lists wall climbing and says it works on any pool surface. The WYBOT C1 climbs slopes of up to 45 degrees and is the one to confirm. The Scuba SE and Seagull SE are listed as floor cleaners for flat pools and do not mention walls, which is one reason they fit shallow soft-sided pools.
Flat Floors
Several robots here are written for flat floors only. The AquaVac 250 Li names flat-bottomed pools under 5 ft deep, the WYBOT A1 rules out slopes over 15 degrees and wrinkles, and the Aiper models both say flat. If your pool has a sloped bottom or a deep section, those are the robots to rule out first.
Cord Over the Wall or Cordless
In an above-ground pool the cord is a practical problem, not only a preference. A cable that comes over a wall can catch on the edge, pull on the liner or tangle with the ladder, and the outlet has to be near the pool.
The Case for Cordless
Five of the seven robots here are cordless, from the 7.5 lb Seagull SE to the WYBOT C1. They remove the cable from the picture and are the simpler choice for a small pool. Runtimes run from 90 to 160 minutes, and every one is a stated maximum, so match it to your pool's area. Our cordless robotic pool cleaner guide goes deeper on batteries and retrieval.
The Case for a Cord
A corded robot like the Nautilus CC has no battery to charge and no minutes to count. The trade is a cable over the wall. Check how far your outlet is from the pool before you choose, because the listing does not give the cable length. The Escape does not say whether it is corded or cordless, so confirm before you assume either.
Lifting It Over the Edge
Listed weights run from 7.5 lb to 14.8 lb for the robots that state one. A lighter robot is easier to lift over the edge, so the weight is worth weighing against the features you give up.
Algae and Fine Dirt in Small Pools
In a small pool, the filter and the brush decide what a robot can do about algae and fine dirt. The listings differ a lot on both.
Brushes and Scrubbing
The Escape lists a HyperBrush that scrubs and vacuums contaminants, algae and debris, and the Nautilus CC lists an active scrubbing brush. The Aiper and Hayward listings do not mention a brush. A robot does not replace water chemistry, so treat it as the part of the job that removes what the water has already dropped.
Filter Fineness
The WYBOT A1 is the only pick that states a micron rating, 180 micron with a textured foam layer. For the others, the filter is a basket or canister with no stated fineness, which is fine for leaves and grit and tells you nothing about fine dust. The AquaVac 250 Li lists a large debris canister, and the Escape a large cartridge.
When to Look at a Bigger Model
If your above-ground pool is large or deep, a robot built for inground pools may suit it better, at the price of weight. Our inground pool robot guide covers that class, and the brand pages cover the ranges from Dolphin, Aiper and WYBOT.
