Roomba vs Roborock: a dark round robot vacuum and a white one with a raised sensor turret clean opposite ends of the same living room rug

Roomba and Roborock are two names that come up constantly when you start shopping for a robot vacuum, and the question "which is better?" usually gets a one-line answer that helps nobody. The honest answer is that it depends on the tier. At the entry level the two brands are close. At the top of each range they make very different choices about mopping, sensors and how the dock works.

So this page does not rank the brands. It sets eight current models side by side in four matched pairs, one Roomba against one Roborock at the same rung of the ladder: budget, budget with a self-emptying dock, mid-range with a washing dock, and flagship. Inside each pair you can see what the maker states for the same points that matter at home, and where one side is silent, we say so.

How We Compare

We do not run a test lab, and we will not pretend to. Every figure on this page is the maker's own, taken from each model's current Amazon US listing and set next to its pair. We attribute the numbers, we say "not stated" when a listing is silent, and we never mix two makers' suction ratings as if they were measured the same way.

  • Matched tier

Each pair sits in the same tier, or we say plainly when it does not.

  • Navigation

LiDAR, 3D sensing or camera, and what the robot is said to avoid.

  • Mopping

Pad, spinning pads or roller, and whether it lifts on carpet.

  • The dock

Emptying, washing, drying and how long it runs unattended.

  • Height

Whether it fits under your sofa, and what threshold it climbs.

  • Upkeep

Brushes, pads, bags and filters you will keep buying.

Budget: Roomba 105 Vac vs Roborock Q7 L5

This is the entry rung for both brands, and the two robots look alike on paper: both map with a laser, both charge on a plain dock, and both are driven from an app. The difference is in what each maker adds to that base.

The Matchup

The Roomba 105 Vac is a pure vacuum. iRobot lists ClearView LiDAR, cleaning in neat rows, room selection and keep-out zones in the Roomba Home app, and a spot mode that works one area for up to five minutes. It gives no suction figure in pascals, only a claim of 70 times more power-lifting suction than the Roomba 600 series. The Roborock Q7 L5 lists 8,000 Pa, LiDAR mapping that saves multiple floor maps, a 270 ml tank with three water levels, and a removable mop pad.

iRobot lists ClearView LiDAR, neat-row cleaning, scheduling by room, adjustable passes and suction levels, keep-out zones and voice control through Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant. The robot recharges and resumes where it stopped. The Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz for setup and operation. Suction is quoted only against the older Roomba 600 series, and robot height is not stated, so measure your furniture clearance.

What stands out

  • LiDAR mapping and neat rows at the budget tier

Roborock lists HyperForce 8,000 Pa, a dual anti-tangle system (a main brush plus a zero-tangle side brush), 360 degree laser mapping with multiple saved floor maps, and no-go zones. The 270 ml tank feeds a removable pad at three water levels. The listing does not say the mop lifts on carpet, so keep rugs out of its mopping path. It works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, and Roborock backs it with a one year warranty for quality-related issues.

What stands out

  • Mop pad with three water levels
  • 8,000 Pa stated
  • Saves multiple floor maps
  • Anti-tangle main and side brushes

Trade-offs

  • Dock only charges
  • Carpet lift for the mop not stated

Which One to Pick

Choose the Roborock Q7 L5 if you want a mop pad and a number to compare. Choose the Roomba 105 Vac if you want the app iRobot built for beginners and have no use for a mop. Neither empties itself, so the next pair is where the dock enters the picture.

Self-Emptying: Roomba 105 Vac AutoEmpty vs Roborock Q7 M5+

Adding a self-emptying dock changes the daily chore more than any other upgrade at this level. Both brands sell a model that does it without leaving the budget end of the range.

The Matchup

iRobot's Roomba 105 Vac with AutoEmpty Dock keeps the vacuum-only approach and adds a dock whose bag iRobot says traps 99% of allergens as small as 0.7 microns, with up to 75 days of hands-free cleaning. The Roborock Q7 M5+ pairs a 2.7 L sealed dust bag rated for 7 to 9 weeks with 10,000 Pa suction, PreciSense LiDAR and a mop with three water-flow settings. Both are in the same tier.

What stands out

  • Dock empties for up to 75 days

Roborock rates the RockDock Plus bag for 7 to 9 weeks and pairs it with PreciSense LiDAR, a JawScrapers main brush and a side brush it calls 0% hair-tangling. The app lets you set no-go zones around pet areas and schedule by room. Mopping has three water-flow settings; the listing does not name the mop type or state carpet lift or a mop-washing function. It works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. The height of the robot itself is not stated in the listing.

What stands out

  • Dock rated for 7 to 9 weeks
  • 10,000 Pa stated
  • Anti-tangle main and side brushes
  • Mop with three water-flow settings

Trade-offs

  • Mop washing is not described
  • Robot height not stated
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

Which One to Pick

If you never mop, the Roomba is the simpler way to stop emptying a bin: its 75 days is the longer stated stretch in days, though the bag size is not given. If you might want the occasional mop run, or you prefer a stated suction figure and brushes built for long hair, the Q7 M5+ gives you more for the same tier.

Mid-Range Combo: Roomba Plus 575 vs Roborock Qrevo S Pro

Here the docks start washing and drying the mops. One caution before the comparison: these two do not sit in exactly the same tier. The Roomba Plus 575 sits in the premium price tier and the Qrevo S Pro one step lower, so the Roborock is the cheaper of the two. That is part of the comparison, and we say it up front.

The Matchup

The Roomba Plus 575 states 25,000 Pa, ClearView Pro LiDAR with PrecisionVision AI, spinning mop pads on an articulating arm that extends 35 mm, a threshold climb of up to 35 mm and an AutoWash dock with 167°F pad washing, 113°F drying and up to 90 days of dust emptying. The Roborock Qrevo S Pro states 18,500 Pa, a dual spinning mop that lifts 10 mm on carpet, a dock with 167°F self-cleaning, 113°F drying and a 2.7 L bag rated for 7 to 9 weeks, and a 3.8 inch low profile.

The lower tier matters more than the extra suction.

iRobot states 25,000 Pa suction, a rubber and bristle brush, a 3 prong side brush for pet hair, and spinning mop pads with SmartScrub pressure. The mop pads lift 10 mm over carpet. The robot is described as 46% smaller by volume than the Roomba 505, which is a comparison to a model we do not rate, so check the clearance under your own furniture. Liquid refills the onboard tank for up to 40 days of mopping.

What stands out

  • 25,000 Pa stated
  • Dock empties for up to 90 days and washes pads at 167°F
  • Mop lifts 10 mm on carpet
  • Climbs thresholds up to 35 mm

Roborock states 18,500 Pa, SmartPlan 2.0 that adjusts to layout and floor types, 55 dB operation, and carpet handling with boosted suction and a 10 mm mop lift. The listing says it glides under beds and sofas at 3.8 inches. Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only. The listing gives a one year warranty for quality-related issues.

What stands out

  • Dock empties, washes at 167°F and dries at 113°F
  • 3.8 inch low-profile body
  • 10 mm mop lift and boosted carpet suction
  • Quiet 55 dB operation, per Roborock

Trade-offs

  • Lower stated suction than the Roomba
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

Which One to Pick

If the Roborock's tier is the one you want to stay in, take the Qrevo S Pro: it covers the washing routine and clears low furniture. Take the Roomba Plus 575 when you will use the higher suction rating and the longer 90 day dust stretch, and you accept the step up in tier.

Flagship: Roomba Max 875 vs Roborock Saros 20

These are the flagship-tier models we cover for each brand, and both are premium. Here the two makers disagree most about how a robot should mop and how it should see.

The Matchup

The Roomba Max 875 states 40,000 Pa, SealForce and tornado-like airflow, a PowerSpin Max roller mop with 140°F hot water, 300 RPM and 18 N of pressure, and ClearView Pro Dual Line LiDAR with PrecisionVision AI that recognizes 300+ common objects. The Roborock Saros 20 states 36,000 Pa, a 3.14 inch body with 3D time-of-flight sensing and an RGB camera, recognition of over 300 obstacles, and a dock that washes with 212°F hot water.

Roborock lists an AdaptiLift chassis that crosses up to 3.46 in double-layer steps and cleans carpets up to 1.18 in deep, StarSight 2.0 with 3D ToF sensors and an RGB camera, a 36,000 Pa motor, a dual anti-tangle system, and FlexiArm that extends the side brush and mop. The dock washes at 212°F, dries at 131°F and empties for up to 65 days. The built-in camera lets you check in on pets through the app.

What stands out

  • 3.14 inch body
  • Crosses up to 3.46 in double-layer steps
  • 212°F mop wash and 131°F drying
  • Works on 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi

Trade-offs

  • Mop type not stated beyond the extending design

Which One to Pick

Pick the Roomba Max 875 when stuck-on spills and rug pickup matter most, because its roller and 40,000 Pa are built for that. Pick the Saros 20 when clearance and thresholds decide it: it is the lower robot and states a higher step. Both are premium, so the choice is the trade, not the tier.

Mopping, Docks and Height

Across the four pairs, three differences repeat, and they are worth knowing before you compare any two specific models.

Mopping: Pads, Spinners and Rollers

At the budget end Roborock offers a mop with water-flow settings and Roomba offers no mop, and at the top iRobot has moved to a roller on the Max 875 while Roborock stays with extending spinning mops on the Saros 20. In the middle, both the Plus 575 and the Qrevo S Pro use spinning pads that lift 10 mm over carpet. If your floors are mostly hard, a washing dock matters more than the mop shape. If you have rugs, check for a stated carpet lift or shield, and treat a missing mention as "not stated".

Docks: What Each Brand Calls a Full Dock

Both brands now sell docks that empty, wash and dry. The temperatures differ by model: iRobot states 167°F on the Plus 575 and 176°F on the Max 875, while Roborock states 167°F on the Qrevo S Pro and 212°F on the Saros 20. The stated dust stretch runs from 65 days to 90 days at the top, and Roborock quotes weeks at the lower tiers where iRobot quotes days.

Height and Thresholds

The Saros 20 at 3.14 inches and the Qrevo S Pro at 3.8 inches are the two bodies with a clear stated height. The Roomba listings we read do not state a robot height, so measure under your sofa. Thresholds: the Plus 575 states 35 mm, the Max 875 states 3.5 cm and the Saros 20 states 3.46 in for a double-layer step.

Pet Hair: Roomba or Roborock?

The Short Answer

Both brands now ship rubber or anti-tangle brushes on their upper models, and both state them as pet-friendly. For hair-specific picks across brands, with ratings quoted from each maker, see our guide to the best robot vacuums for pet hair. For the full range of each brand, see our Roomba reviews and Roborock reviews, or our Shark vs Roomba comparison.

Roomba vs Roborock FAQ

Neither brand wins everywhere. On these listings Roborock states more at the lower tiers: a mop pad on the Q7 L5 and a higher suction figure on the Q7 M5+. At the top, iRobot states the higher suction and the longer dust stretch, while Roborock states the lower body. Match the pair above to your floors.
Both run from a phone app with room scheduling and no-go zones. iRobot markets the Roomba 105 as easy to use, and its listings stress the Roomba Home app and voice control. Roborock's app adds more settings, such as water-flow levels and SmartPlan on higher models. The simpler robot suits first-time owners.
On the upper models, yes. The Roomba Plus 575 and the Roborock Qrevo S Pro both state a 10 mm mop lift, and the Roomba Max 875 states a roller shield that lowers over carpet. The Roborock Q7 models do not state a lift, so keep rugs out of their mopping path.
The listings used here give no parts catalog and no costs, so we cannot rank the brands on this. Both brands use brushes, filters and dust bags that wear out and need replacing. Before buying, search for your exact model's brushes, filters, pads and bags and compare what is offered and how easy they are to find.
